The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority Board of Directors has selected Michael Stephens, TPA Executive Vice President and General Counsel, as the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the airport. Stephens, a 52-year-old seasoned executive, will become the airport’s fourth CEO and first Black CEO in its history.

The decision, which came after a nine-month process, resulted in a 4-1 vote among the five-member Board. The choice marks a significant milestone in the airport’s history, paving the way for important decisions and initiatives.
Leadership Responsibilities
As CEO, Stephens will lead the organization’s growth strategy, which includes expansion beyond Airside D, integration of new technologies, and investments in financial and environmental sustainability. He will oversee the management and operation of three airports, including Tampa International, St. Petersburg, and Plant City. Stephens will also be responsible for guiding the development and implementation of new airport programs, services, and technologies.
