Reginald F. Lewis was a black billionaire businessman and philanthropist. He was the Chairman and CEO of TLC Beatrice International, a global food company. Lewis was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1942. He attended Virginia State University, where he earned a degree in political science. After graduating, he attended Harvard Law School, where he earned a J.D. in 1968.

After graduating from Harvard Law School, Lewis worked as a corporate lawyer before founding his own venture capital firm. In 1987, he made history by acquiring Beatrice International Foods for $985 million, creating TLC Beatrice International.
TLC Beatrice International was a global food company with operations in 31 countries. Under Lewis’s leadership, the company generated significant profits and became the largest black-owned business in the United States.
Lewis was also a philanthropist. He donated millions of dollars to educational institutions, including Harvard Law School and Virginia State University. He established the Reginald F. Lewis Foundation, which provides grants to organizations that support education, entrepreneurship, and social justice.
Lewis was a highly respected businessman and philanthropist. He has been recognized for his achievements by numerous organizations, including being posthumously inducted into the Junior Achievement U.S. Business Hall of Fame. In 1993, he tragically passed away from brain cancer.
