Hello everyone, according to multiple sources, Coco Gauff’s women’s single US Open win against drew more viewers than the mens final witch featured quite possibly the greatest men’s tennis player of all-time, Novak Djokovic who is 36, won against the 27 year old Daniil Medvedev. Both matches were great to watch, I somehow managed to find enough time to watch both. I wasn’t too surprised that Novak won, the guy looks like he is in the best shape of his life.

But we cannot deny how amazing the Coco Gauff vs Aryna Sabalenka match was and we have to remember Coco is just 19 years old and she is the first American to win the US Open since Sloane Stephens won it in 2017.

In a significant shift in viewership trends, Coco Gauff’s landmark US Open victory became ESPN’s “most-watched” women’s Grand Slam final, even surpassing the viewership numbers of Novak Djokovic’s 3 set win over Daniil Medvedev.

Recent data from ESPN highlights the booming interest in women’s tennis, especially when American talent is on display. Gauff’s championship match against Aryna Sabalenka drew an audience of 3.4 million – a staggering 92% leap from 2022’s final where Iga Swiatek emerged victorious against Ons Jabeur.

This soaring viewership can be attributed to the national anticipation around Coco Gauff; she’s the first American to claim the title since Sloane Stephens in 2017. The 19-year-old’s 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 triumph against Sabalenka also places her in an elite category, making her the first American teen since the legendary Serena Williams in 1999 to clinch a major.

The 2023 US Open final between Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev drew 2.3 million viewers, up 8% from last year. This was the most-viewed men’s final since 2019, and the tournament overall averaged 1 million viewers overall, up 25% from 2021.

While some may attribute the lower viewership to a boring final, it is important to note that the US Open competes with the NFL on Sundays, which always leads to lower ratings.

The men’s and women’s semi-finals averaged a record 1.9 million viewers, up 1% from 2022, while the women’s quarter-finals averaged 1.8 million viewers on ESPN, up 56% year-on-year.

These viewership figures are a positive sign for the US Open and for tennis as a whole. The increase in attendance and viewership suggests that there is a growing interest in the sport, and this is good news for businesses that are involved in the tennis industry.
