Angel Reese is an African American athlete and businesswoman that was born on May 6, 2002, in Randallstown, Maryland. She was raised in a basketball-loving family, with her mother and brother both playing the sport. Reese began playing basketball at a young age and quickly showed promise. She attended Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore, where she was a four-year varsity player and led the team to three consecutive Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland championships. Reese was also a McDonald’s All-American and the No. 2 overall player in her class according to ESPN.
Reese enrolled at the University of Maryland in 2020 as the highest-ranked recruit in program history. However, her freshman season was cut short due to a fractured right foot. Reese returned for her sophomore season in 2021-22 and had a breakout year, averaging 17.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. She was named to the All-Big Ten First Team and Defensive First Team, and helped lead Maryland to the Sweet Sixteen.
Reese transferred to LSU in 2022 and had an even better season in 2022-23. She led the Tigers to their first national championship, averaging 23.0 points and 15.4 rebounds per game. Reese was named the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player and was also awarded the ESPY for Best Breakthrough Athlete.
