She was raised in Columbia, South Carolina, and began playing basketball at a young age. Wilson attended Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, where she was a standout player. She led her team to three state championships and was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year in 2015.
Wilson went on to play college basketball for the South Carolina Gamecocks. She was a two-time consensus National Player of the Year and led the Gamecocks to their first NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship in 2017.
A’ja Wilson is a two-time WNBA MVP, two-time Defensive Player of the Year, and Olympic gold medalist. She is widely considered to be one of the best players in the world. Wilson was a dominant force in college at South Carolina, where she led the Gamecocks to their first NCAA title in 2017.
